There was nothing else for it...
I needed to see what all the fuss was about.

The car pulls to a slow stop by the sidewalk, headlights dipped down the vague street. The atmosphere is inky, black, save the flickering golden light of a lantern, beckoning me.
I tip the driver, he nods and the car slides away.

Mesmerised, I move towards the light. My shadow weaves and wanes, following me like a damned private investigator. The click of my shoes, echoing on the paving slabs, slips into time with fragments of jazz, fractured beats drifting out into the damp night air.

The muffled clink of glasses and laughter becomes distinct as I draw closer. I push the bell, stub out my cigarette on the step. The door swings open, that warm glow illuminating the street for a moment, then swishes shut behind me. I’m in.

Despite having only been open for a matter of months, we managed to come through a field of some particularly tough and distinguished competition to scoop this highly coveted award.
It will be highly cherished by us so a huge thank you to Time Out, the impeccably good palette of it's staff, the judges and cocktail drinking readers for this honour.

Just got word in from New Orleans, Louisianna

Tony Conigliaro, International Bartender of the Year 2009

Our very own Mr Conigliaro (Tony C to his friends) has just come back from the prestigious Tales of the Cocktail Conference in New Orleans, with yet another award to decorate his back bar… International Bartender of the Year 2009.

This highly coveted award - the Oscars of the cocktail community - states [modestly] as its criteria:
"The absolute best drinks mixer in the world. The winner must have received international recognition of their work with their own recipes crossing borders to appear on cocktail menus in numerous countries."
As voted by his contemporaries and some of the best people in the business for his cutting edge methods and influence on the bar industry and drinks brands worldwide.
